Part 1: Selecting the right objective

There are a multitude of options, but this is what I suggest for each team member: N.B: Players can get bonus skills up to +2.5, but these skills require mental skills. See the "Bonus skills" guide for more. The ones listed are for players with either none or the "wrong" mental skills, and the ones obtained by following my objectives.

Goalkeepers (GK). The person between the sticks. Think of David Seaman of Man City or Carlo Cudicini of Chelsea. These have obvious training objectives thankfully! Here is, in order, what I suggest. (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)

Primary Goals: Reflexes, Flying Saves, One-on-One, Aerial Control, Goal Kicks, Throw-Outs, Level Goal
Secondary Goals: Technique
Bonus: Panther (Reflexes +2, Flying Saves +2), overall bonus is +1.5


Central Defenders (CD). The people who defend the goal at all costs. Marking and Tackling is a must, with speed behind. Think of Sol Campbell of Arsenal or Allesandro Nesta of AC Milan. There are five primary skills for central defenders and quite a lot of secondary goals. (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)

Primary Goals: Acceleration, Speed, Tackling, Header, Level Defence
Secondary Goals: Passing, Technique, Level Midfield (for extra positions)
Bonus: Lightening Speed (Acceleration +2, Speed +2), overall bonus is +1


Fullbacks (LB, RB). The defenders on the side who also go forward a little. Think of Wayne Bridge of Chelsea. Fullbacks have four main skills but quite a few secondary skills. (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)

Primary Goals: Acceleration, Speed, Tackling, Level Defence
Secondary Skills: Header, Passing, Technique, Crossing, Level Midfield
Bonus: Lightening Speed (Acceleration +2, Speed +2), overall bonus is +1


Wingbacks (LWB, RWB). Wingbacks are the attacking alternatives of fullbacks and therefore have a slightly different range of skills. Think of John Arne Riise of Liverpool or Ashley Cole of Arsenal. (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)

Primary Goals: Acceleration, Speed, Crossing, Tackling, Level Defence
Secondary Skills: Passing, Dribbling, Heading, Technique, Level Midfield
Bonus: God of the Crosses (Crossing +2, Speed +1), overall bonus is +1.5


Defensive Midfielders (DM). An important player that "holds" the midfield and protects the defence. Their absence is often noticeable, for example Hamann at Liverpool, Viera at Arsenal and Makelele from Real Madrid. (who now concede even more goals) (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)

Primary Goals: Tackling, Passing, Heading, Speed, Acceleration, Level Midfield
Secondary Goals: Shot Power, Shooting Accuracy, Dribbling, Technique, Level Defence
Bonus: Midfield General (Passing +1, Tackling +1, Header +1), overall bonus is +1.5 and after secondary goals; Playmaker (Passing +2, Technique/Dribbling +1), overall bonus of +2


Central Midfielders (CM). A player who is neutral: he helps come back and defend and also attacks. Examples are Steven Gerrard of Liverpool or Roy Keane of Manchester United. (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)

Primary Goals: Passing, Dribbling, Technique, Acceleration, Speed, Level Midfield
Secondary Goals: Shot Power, Shooting Accuracy, Header
Bonus: Playmaker (Passing +2, Dribbling/Technique +1), overall bonus is +2


Attacking Midfielders (AM). The creative guys who score a few and set up a lot. Think of the entire Real Madrid side, or more specifically, Paul Scholes of Manchester United or Zinedine Zidane of Real Madrid. They need to be excellent passers and have excellent control and movement. (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)

Primary Skills: Passing, Dribbling, Acceleration, Speed, Technique, Level Midfield
Secondary Skills: Shot Power, Shooting Accuracy, Crossing, Heading
Bonus: Playmaker (Passing +2, Dribbling/Technique +1), overall bonus +2


Side Midfielders (LM/RM). As the name implies, these people play on the side of midfield. They attack regularly and provide width for the team but also come back for some defensive duties. Examples are David Beckham on the right for Real Madrid and Jesper Gronkjær for Chelsea. (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)

Secondary Skills: Technique, Tackling, Shot Power, Shooting Accuracy, Header
Bonus: God of the Crosses (Crossing +2, Speed +1), overall bonus +1.5 and eventually Playmaker (Passing +2, Dribbling/Technique +1), overall bonus +2


Wingers (RW/LW). These guys attack and provide width, with hardly any defensive duties. Think of people like Ryan Giggs. (Manchester United) They are usually quick and have good dribbling and crossing skills. (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)

Secondary Skills: Passing, Technique, Shot Power, Shooting Accuracy
Bonus: God of the Crosses (Crossing +2, Speed +1), overall bonus is +1.5


Centre-forwards (CF). Not quite an out-and-out striker, but someone who plays behinds the strikers, providing killer passes and instinctive shots. Think of Emile Heskey (Liverpool) or Allesandro Del Piero. (Juventus) (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)

Primary Skills: Shooting Accuracy, Acceleration, Speed, Dribbling, Shot Power, Level Attack
Secondary Skills: Passing, Technique, Header, Crossing
Bonus Skills: Distance Shooter (Shot Power/Shot Accuracy, one +2, other +1), overall bonus is +1.5


Striker (ST). Often the star player of the team. Scores for fun. Think of Michael Owen (Liverpool) or Ruud Van Nistlerooy. (Manchester United) Accuracy, Power and Speed are vital for scoring by the bucketful. (the objectives are listed in order of when they should be done)
